535 IRONSTONE
CLICK HERE to download an Ironstone flier

Ironstone is a 60# iron bearing clay made from 100% Australian clays and is designed for cone 10 reduction.

The feedback so far is that throwers love the plasticity and how well Ironstone stands up on the wheel. “For a clay that feels fine between your fingers it stands up so well, I just love this clay”.Hand builders have been enjoying the stability of the clay during the making and firing.

This unusual clay breaks some of the rules...

Ironstone is a clay that encourages the designer-maker to let the clay body shine through. Soluble materials are present in many ‘crude’ clays within Australia. In the majority of clays soluble salts are neutralised to provide a more predictable fired result. During the formulation of Ironstone, clays containing the harmless soluble materials have been targeted and left active. During the firing, accents are generated on the clay by the migration of the natural soluble materials present. This migration is influenced by the drying process and can be seen as warmer reddish blushes on the fired samples.

Add a little spice to your work, leave some of the clay exposed and unglazed and allow Keane Ironstone to weave its magic!
